Breast Lift

- Can be combined with breast augmentation to create full, lifted breasts
- Dr. Gallas has performed several hundred breast lift surgeries
Time, weight, gravity and pregnancy can have a significant impact on a woman’s breasts, causing them to lose fullness and sag. With a breast lift, Dr. Gallas tightens the underlying tissue and skin to bring your breasts higher and back to a more youthful position. He may also use implants to provide fullness that has been lost. The result is a younger-looking, more attractive bustline.
Breast lift (mastopexy) is used to restore a more youthful shape to the breast. Patients notice drastic improvement in drooping (ptosis) of the breast and nipple. The nipple often falls and points downward. The areola (darker skin around the nipple) can become distended, which distorts the breast’s natural proportions.
A breast lift does not remove breast tissue but merely tightens the skin and lifts the glandular tissue. It is common to have a breast augmentation combined with a breast lift in situations where you desire larger breasts. The degree of sagging determines the type of breast lift required. Each technique may involve some degree of scarring. These scars are within normal garment lines and become less visible with time. If there is a small degree of breast and nipple ptosis, a periareolar mastopexy may be recommended. This scar goes entirely around the areolar border and can tighten the breast in all directions while reducing the diameter of the areola. When there is more sagging and skin looseness, a standard mastopexy is required. In addition to the periareolar incision, an incision is made extending into the breast crease. Your consultation with Dr. Gallas will clarify the right solution for your breast shape.

Breast Lift Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get breast implants with a breast lift?
Yes, this is a very popular procedure performed by Dr. Gallas. Not only do many women want to remove excess skin from their breasts and reshape them, they also want to add fullness to the upper pole of the breast or they may desire larger breasts. This can be due to the woman’s anatomy, pregnancy and breastfeeding, or weight loss. For these women, combining breast lift with breast augmentation can result in fuller, lifted, more youthful looking breasts.
What type of breast lift does Dr. Gallas perform?
Dr. Gallas is very skilled at performing many types of breast lift surgeries including periareolar, lollipop, and anchor lifts to name a few. Every woman’s anatomy is unique; therefore, the extent of the breast lift will be discussed and determined with Dr. Gallas during your consultation and surgical planning appointments.
What are the scars going to look like after breast lift?
Scar patterns and visibility vary depending on the type and extent of the lift performed. Generally, scar visibility is minimal and the improvement in size and shape produces a more pleasing breast form.
Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?
If you can breastfeed before a breast lift, you will likely be able to breastfeed afterwards as well. The ability of the breast to produce milk is typically not affected with a breast lift.
What is breast lift recovery like?
Breast lift surgery typically reduces the redundant and stretched-out skin. The incisions usually heal rapidly with little down time for most activities.
Will the size of my breasts be decreased with a breast lift?
Depending on the extent of the lift, breast shape changes without affecting the overall size of the breasts. Occasionally bra sizes may change due to the change in breast shape.
How much time will I need to take off work after breast lift?
Most patients are able to return to work within days after a breast lift procedure.
If I have children and breast feed after breast lift surgery will I need to have another surgery after children?
Breast shape continues to change with age, including after pregnancy. Depending on how much the breast shape changes with pregnancy, the number of pregnancies, and the duration of breastfeeding, future breast reshaping surgery is always an option.
