Look The Way You Want
Some women are displeased by the small size of their breasts from a young age. Other women develop dissatisfaction after pregnancy or weight loss-related breast changes.
Breast augmentation, or breast enlargement, increases the size and improves the shape of the breasts through the use of silicone or saline-filled implants. This procedure helps women achieve the physique they have always wanted and remains one of the most common cosmetic surgical procedures performed.

How Is Breast Augmentation Performed?
Breast augmentation is performed under the comfort of general anesthesia with the assistance of an anesthesiologist. This outpatient procedure is completed within one to two hours, and patients can return home shortly after the anesthesia wears off.
What Types of Breast Implants Can Be Used?
Your breast implants may be filled with either silicone or saline and will be smooth in texture and round in shape. Implants of either material are available in a wide variety of sizes to fit your body shape and size.
Silicone implants are preferred by the vast majority of patients, believing that they provide a more natural result.
Where Are the Incisions Placed for Breast Augmentation?
Most breast implants are placed through an incision made along the inframammary fold. This is the crease where the bottom of the breast meets the ribcage. Scarring for this incision option is easy to conceal under bras and bathing suits.
In certain circumstances, implants can be placed through a periareolar incision. This incision is made around the border of the areola so that the darker skin camouflages the scar.
What Are My Breast Implant Placement Options?
An implant is placed behind the breast tissue and either in front of the muscle (subglandular) or behind the muscle (submuscular). While both placement options have their benefits, most women choose to insert their implants behind the muscle.
Submuscular placement may require an extended recovery period, but it is commonly believed to provide results that look and feel more natural.
What Will My Breast Augmentation Recovery Be Like?
Our breast augmentation in Katy and Houston, Texas is an outpatient procedure. As it is performed under general anesthesia, it requires patients to have someone to drive them home and stay with them for the first night to help with household responsibilities like cooking, cleaning, and changing.
Patients will be sore and swollen following the procedure. Prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication will lessen post-operative discomfort, and a compression garment will help reduce swelling. This compression garment will also aid in circulation and facilitate the healing process.
The patient’s chests will feel tight, and breast sensitivity may be temporarily altered after their breast augmentation. These feelings will usually go away within a few weeks. Patients should sleep on their backs during this time to avoid unnecessary pressure on the breasts.
Most women return to work and their daily activities within the first week after the procedure. Some swelling may persist for several weeks, and sports bras are recommended for comfort and support. Patients should refrain from wearing an underwire bra until they are sure that the incisions are completely healed.
Depending on implant placement, strenuous exercise, including lifting weights, running, and yoga, should be limited for at least four to six weeks. Most patients feel entirely healed after eight weeks.
When Will I See My Breast Augmentation Results?
Your augmentation results will be apparent immediately following your procedure, but they will continue to adjust over the following weeks and months as the swelling subsides and the implants settle.
Your results will last for several years as long as there are no implant complications or significant fluctuations in weight. Implants are not designed to be permanent, and you may eventually experience a complication that requires an additional surgical procedure.
Breast implant removal and breast revision are available should any complications arise.
How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost?
The final cost of your breast augmentation is a reflection of the specifics of your procedure and your surgeon’s skill and experience. The breast implant type you choose will also impact the overall cost of your breast augmentation surgery. Other factors include anesthesia fees, facility fees, surgeon’s fees, pre-surgical tests, medications, and post-surgical dressings. Dr. Gallas will provide you with an accurate cost estimate during your consultation.
Should Breast Lift Surgery Be Combined With Breast Augmentation?
Some women choose breast augmentation after pregnancy or weight loss has affected the appearance of their breasts. While implants can restore volume to the chest, they cannot raise sagging breast tissues. Women with moderate to severe breast ptosis (sagging) following a size fluctuation may benefit from a combination of breast augmentation and breast lift surgery.
A breast lift tightens the glandular breast tissue and removes excess skin to raise the breasts and provide a more youthful appearance. A donut incision (two concentric incisions made around the areola) is commonly used when combining an augmentation and a lift.
What Other Procedures Can Be Performed With Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation can be performed as a standalone procedure. However, it is often performed with liposuction and tummy tuck surgery, a combination of procedures known as the Mommy Makeover that provides comprehensive enhancement of the breasts and body.

Breast Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions
Will I have a warranty on my breast implants?
Both saline and silicone breast implants have a warranty which covers certain events that may occur over the life of your breast implants. The warranty will vary between breast implant makers as well as for saline versus silicone breast implants. Many breast implant makers will allow the patient to pay an additional fee for extended warranty coverage. Warranty information can be further discussed at your consultation.
Am I able to get a mammogram with breast implants?
Mammograms are recommended for many women over the age of forty and for some women who are under forty, depending upon personal and family health history. While there is risk for rupturing or deflating breast implants from the compression during the mammogram, it is safe to get a mammogram if you have breast implants. When you schedule your mammogram, it is important to let the imaging center know that you have breast implants.
Can breast augmentation help correct breast asymmetries?
Breast asymmetry is not uncommon and oftentimes can be improved through breast augmentation. This can be achieved through the use of breast implants that may differ in size, shape, or volume. To improve significant breast asymmetry, a breast lift or breast reduction may be done in combination with breast augmentation or as a standalone surgery.
Where will my breast augmentation surgery be performed?
Breast augmentation is an outpatient or same day surgery. For the ultimate in safety and convenience, Dr. Gallas performs his procedures at Provincial Park Surgery Center, which is a state licensed onsite surgery center.
If I have children after breast augmentation will I need to have my breasts re-done?
Every woman’s body changes after pregnancy so additional surgery may be desired post-pregnancy. It is best to discuss your concerns as well as the likelihood of future pregnancy with Dr. Gallas in your consultation and surgical planning.
