Male Breast Reduction
- Refers to the growth of breast tissue in men
- Can cause confidence issues and low self-esteem
- Typically resolved with liposuction and/ or excision of the affected area
Enlargement of the male breast (gynecomastia) can be a source of embarrassment regardless of what age it develops.
Primary gynecomastia occurs during puberty and is without a known cause. Fortunately, the breast enlargement is often limited and improves over three to five years. Secondary gynecomastia occurs in up to 50% of adult males during their lifetime. Gynecomastia does not usually indicate disease but should be assessed by Dr. Gallas located in Katy and Houston, TX. Very rarely, male breast cancer can occur. Some medications, certain drugs and obesity are aggravating factors.
The enlargement is often comprised of fatty tissue and breast glandular tissue. Improved chest contour is often achieved with liposuction. If there is loose skin or a large component of glandular tissue, the excess will be surgically removed through a discreet incision at the border of the areola.
We encourage, honor and welcome your referrals. For more information about gynecomastia and breast surgery procedures, call Gallas Plastic Surgery & Vein Center in Katy and West Houston, Texas at (281) 646-1114, or use our online Request an Appointment form.
